I just returned from producing the Association of Talent Development St. Louis Learn Conference with the amazing president Jazmin Webster.
The challenge is that the venue required me to “NOT TOUCH THEIR EQUIPMENT”
This is a challenge since they have their mics, speakers, and projectors as part of their setup.
Here are the Rules of Miracle Productions That Apply To Life:
1) Remain Calm – take a breath and remaining calm gives you the best odds of succeeding
2) Believe Anything Is Possible – know a solution is possible, you just haven’t found it yet
3) Be Persistent Until You Get an Acceptable Solution – ask better and better questions and keep going until you find the solution
Q: Can I get a feed from your audio board?
A: No
Q: Can I put another mic on the speaker?
A: Yes! Aha, if we double mic the speaker, I can get my own audio for the video
Q: Can I put another input into your sound system?
A: No
Q: Can I put a splitter on your HDMI from the laptop to your projectors?
A: Yes! Aha, I can now send a direct video feed to get clear images of the presenters slides that I can mix direct into the video. In addition, all the audio from the presentation laptop goes through HDMI to the house sound system. I logged into Spotify on this computer with my account and this means I can now control the music from my phone in the back of the room.
What’s the result? For the first time, ATD St. Louis was able to record all of their keynotes and selected breakouts with 4 cameras.
