The movie, The Blind Side, shows the value of coaching to get a player to realize their full potential.
This January through March, I was a coach for the National Speaking Association’s Northwest Chapter (NSA NW) Speaking Showcase.
Here are the top coaching tips I shared:
- 💗Speak From Your Heart, Not Your Head – Yes, write, practice, rehearse and when it comes to showtime, throw that all away. All of your practice prepares you for what to say. All of your heart will deliver it in a way that an audience will care about. No perfectly, AI written script will ever be as powerful as what your heart says is true to you.
- < Less Is More – So. Many. Talks. Try to cram too much into too little time. Choose one point. Reiterate it. Say it again. Tell a story about it. And at the end, as your audience to repeat your one point. If they can repeat it, you done good!
- 🪞Authenticity Trumps Perfection – Often with speaking coaching, you get a LOT of DIFFERENT opinions. They may be all good. The key question to ask is, “Is this ME?”. Be authentic and strong enough to say NO to things you’d never do and say YES when a good idea “resonates” with you. I can tell you, the audience knows and instantly knows. They know when something is amazing and impactful and when something is a bit or simply not you.
🏅I’m one of 400 National Speakers Association’s Certified Speaking Professionals. I coach people throughout the year. When you hire me as a producer, I take time to coaching each of your speakers to make them shine even more on stage. 3 out of 3 (100%) of my coached speakers were judged and selected for another speaking opportunity. I am so proud of my speakers!!!
