Opening & The Paper Son

Do you know what a Paper Son is?

Do you know what the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 is?

Do you want to learn a piece of US immigration that 99% of the population doesn’t know?

The Paper Son is the story of how my grandfather immigrated to the United States and turned hope into success.

Learn how a farmer from China beat the odds and used creativity and innovation to immigrate into the United States.  He put 5 kids through college with a 3rd grade education, of them are PhDs. When you attend The Paper Son, you will learn:

•            What a Paper Son is

•            What the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 is

•            How one man’s hopes and dreams became reality

•            How to overcome impossible odds with creativity and persistence

•            One of the more creative US immigration stories you’ve never heard

•            Inspiration on how hard work and problem solving overcame insurmountable challenges

When you complete The Paper Son, you will learn a story most haven’t heard, be inspired by the persistence to overcome challenges, and be inspired to do more.

He’s the author of the #1 Amazon Hot New Book Release, Engaging Virtual Meetings.  He’s been meeting virtually for over 38 years.  He has produced over 4,000 virtual meetings including an EIGHT language meeting and the only 100% LIVE virtual conference in the training industry. John is the grandson of a Paper Son.  John has taken his 3 children to the hometown of their Paper Son Grandfather.  John is the co-founder of APIEventProfs and the founder of API+ NSA. Book Ghostwriter

Credibility with a Book  — Raise your credibility, attract more revenue and inspire raving fans with your book

Helen Chang is a bestselling author, speaker and entrepreneur. She is the Chief Ghostwriter and Editorial Director at Author Bridge Media. Helen has assisted more than 550 authors to write, design and publish their books for credibility, revenue and raving fans.

Her clients include Michael Gerber of The E-Myth books, Dani Johnson of ABC’s Secret Millionaire, and Scott McGillivray of HGTV’s Income Property. Her authors have landed interviews with top media, including CNN, CNBC, Fox, Forbes, The View,  and Tim Ferris Podcast. With just one book, a client author launched a $100 million empire.

In particular, Helen loves working with people who have experienced failure, despair and struggle, yet rose to gain success, triumph and wisdom. She is passionate about authors with innovative thinking, unique methods and visionary ideas to change the world, as well as those with quiet, heartfelt messages that could save just one person’s life.

Helen believes in the power of stories to transform people, whether through books, audio, or other viral media. She finds grace in helping people tell their stories, so that they can inspire others, make a difference, and ultimately, fulfill their own life purpose.

Books saved Helen’s life, as she grew up in a scholarly, yet emotionally abusive home. Reading stories helped her discover other worlds of adversity and inspiration and to connect to something greater than herself. She began writing poems at age five, published her first book at age eight, and grew up to become an award-winning journalist for publications including BusinessWeek, San Francisco Chronicle and MSNBC.com.

Soon, entrepreneurs started asking her to ghostwrite their training courses, books, and talks which later expanded into publishing services. Author Bridge Media now takes authors from idea to published book in six months.

Helen’s first business book was a roller coaster ride. Finishing her first draft, she sent it in, proud of how she had shared the author’s journey from shame-filled bankruptcy to satisfying multi-millionaire success. Yet, she was told that the book was “not marketable,” since it did not share the author’s actual methods that readers could grow from. Crawling into bed with her own shame, she chose to not give up and instead study best-selling business books and rewrite her client’s manuscript. The book became a bestseller and the cornerstone of the author’s international business.

Helen graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, with a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature. From UC Berkeley, she also holds a Master’s degree in Journalism, with an emphasis on business reporting.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Helen is now based in San Diego, California. She participates with a Hawaiian-music group and enjoys dancing hula.

Building Mental Fitness: Shift from Surviving to Thriving

The more mentally fit you are, the more you’ll be able to handle the stress, anxiety and frustrations that come from work and personal life challenges. This includes relationships and how you engage with others like your colleagues, partner, children.

Your level of Mental Fitness is the best predictor of how happy you are and how well you perform relative to your potential. The bad news is that 80% of people score below the minimum level of mental fitness required for peak performance and happiness.

The good news is that, just like physical fitness, you can boost your Mental Fitness significantly with practice.

During this interactive workshop, we will unpack

The 3 core muscles at the root of mental fitness

How you tend to sabotage your happiness, well-being and performance with Saboteurs like the Judge, the Controller, the Hyper-Achiever, the Pleaser and 6 others

How to detect when a Saboteur has hijacked your brain

Strategies & practices to build your mental muscles so you can intercept and redirect your Saboteur thought and actions

Outcomes: Attendees will leave with strategies and practices for:

Handling saboteur impacts that cause lack of focus, overwhelm from self-doubt, and burnout

Strengthening mental muscles to better handle stress of work and personal life challenges

Ability to manage relationship conflicts and show up with greater empathy towards others

Amy Yip is a Somatic Life Transformation and Mental Fitness coach, keynote speaker, self-confidence trainer, and the author of  Unfinished Business: Breaking Down the Great Wall Between Adult Child and Immigrant Parents.

She works with women of color to strengthen their mental fitness, heal their intergenerational wounds, and have agency to let go of all the ‘shoulds’ so that they can be the authors of their own life stories. Her mission is to empower AAPI women to be seen, to be heard, and to f-ing rock the boat.

In January 2020, after 16+ years of building and leading global teams in organizations including Google, Clorox, and Booz Allen, Amy left the corporate world, sold everything, and took a one-way flight to Ghana with her husband to volunteer at a breast cancer nonprofit and travel the world. COVID-19 shifted their plans; they got stuck in Ghana for seven months.

One of Amy’s greatest learnings is this:

Your mindset, not your circumstances, makes all the difference in your happiness and success.

Through this lens, she works with organizational leaders, including corporate executives, nonprofits, and social entrepreneurs, to find their voice and the courage to speak up, build self-confidence, navigate change, and discover what they really want next in their lives and careers.

Amy is an International Coach Federation Professional Certified Coach, a Certified Hudson Institute Coach, a Certified Strozzi Institute Somatic Coach, and a pioneer Mental Fitness Coach certified through Positive Intelligence.

Amy received her MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and her BS in computer science and BA in communications from the University of Maryland.

Personal Branding for API Women

Personal branding is one of the most under-utilized and mis-used tool in professional careers. Folks who do it well create a name and a brand that is synonymous with what they want to be known for – their strengths, impact, and experience created for others. Asian and Pacific Islander women are some of the most ambitious professionals in the country, yet many of us have been socialized – and stereotyped – as meek and quiet. Without a voice.

In this presentation, I will review 1) the importance of a personal brand and what it is; 2) how you can start to craft your own personal brand; and 3) unique considerations for API women as they iterate and apply their brand.

I am an executive coach, helping mid-career women reach the C-Suite. I have spent the bulk of my professional career in corporate America, across various industries and companies of all sizes. I have a multicultural background, having lived in 4 countries across 3 continents. My passion for coaching women is rooted in my belief that if I can help balance out the power dynamics in at the executive levels, I can help change the culture of work, making it more fulfilling and a better place to be.

Hocus Pocus Your Focus – How Thinking Like a Magician Can Save You Time and Money

Magicians don’t have special powers. They aren’t wizards. They just see the world a bit differently…

I give you insight on a magician’s thought process, and how you can apply that to your life to save you time and money.

Among some of the learning objectives…

Recognize that we’re inherently biased, how our brains are pattern predicting machines, and how to hack that part of your brain to encourage creative problem-solving, innovation, and find new avenues to seeing the same problem.

Multitasking is a myth, and magician’s know it. Learn how they use that to their advantage, and how to deal with the pressure of always having to “get it right”.

Who is Joseph Tran?

You Are A Love Generator: The Secret to Happiness and Self-Worth

Despite growing up in a loving family, I started showing depressive tendencies at a young age.

Like most Asian parents, my parents gave me everything they could to love and support me, and my depression was not their fault. Having said that, I believe the severity of my depression could have been lessened with early professional intervention and a parenting emphasis on self-love.

Traditional Asian culture believes love is reciprocal; it’s something we give to others in the hope of receiving the same love in return. This belief became a major source of my hopelessness and emptiness because I was constantly seeking the “perfect love” that did not exist from others, but no matter how much love I received, it never felt enough, it never felt right, and I never felt understood.

Self-love is one of the greatest gifts educators and parents can give to our children. When children learn to love themselves, their mental health naturally improves. They develop better self-esteem, self-care, and self-compassion. They become more resilient to the challenges in life, have more courage to pursue their dreams, and their capacity to love and support others also increases.

Objectives:

1. Recognize common issues with the traditional Asian love language

2. Recognize how self-love affects mental health

3. Learn Tools for self-love

As a speaker, her dynamic and lighthearted “keynote concerts” engage, elevate, and educate the audience by combining storytelling and life lessons with live original music. Her quirky personality makes her one of the most entertaining mental health speakers you will ever see or hear.

3 Keys to Unlocking Your Asian Leadership Barriers

This seminar delves into elements of our Asian heritage, shedding light and increasing self-awareness.  Participants work through cultural unconscious behaviors from your upbringing that may affect how you show up and respond to workplace surroundings. They’ll also learn how systemic, implicit cultural biases have impacted how we communicate and make decisions and detract from the results we want to achieve. By seeing these different cultural elements more clearly, we can make more intentional decisions with more clarity towards our goals.

The ultimate goal of this workshop is to raise awareness of unique cultural norms Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders have to help them reach their fullest leadership potential. This keynote will focus on 3 keys to unlocking external, internal, and growth barriers. From this session, we encourage participants to take ownership of these cultural differences by choosing one action item from the 3 keys.  By moving accidental unconscious behaviors towards intentional conscious actions, we want everyone to gain access by breaking through cultural barriers.

Jim Lee, Founder and Chief Executive Coach of B-SPOKE, a professional mentoring and coaching organization that elevates the voices of Asians trapped below their cultural glass ceilings.  Observing Asian employees doing the same thing expecting a different result, Jim created the B-SPOKE Asian XCORE leadership program to help the leadership landscape accurately represent Asians in management positions.  His goal was to create a simple, scalable, and sustainable leadership elevator that would be able to intentionally multiply career success for everyone.  Jim is also on faculty for McKinsey and Company’s Asian Executive Leadership Program, coaching and training Asian Leaders from Fortunate 500 companies towards greater career growth.
