Memory Match Breakouts
Goals: Network and play a game.
Remember the memory match game where you shuffle and put down cards and you and another person would try to match as many as possible? This is the video meeting version!
Memory Match Breakouts combines one-on-one networking with a fun game.
Time: 10 minutes
Participants: 12–50
Technology: Audio, video, breakouts
Category: Fun, networking
Instructions: This program requires a minimum of 12 people. Decide on two people to be the guessers. Put everybody into breakout rooms of two people for two minutes and make sure to put the two guessers in the same breakout room. If you have an extra person, make them the referee.
During the breakout, the two people decide on a body position to take. For example, you could do thumbs up, hands up, hands near your ears, and so on. The two people can use the remaining time to learn more about each other. Make sure to return everyone at the same time.
When everybody returns, they hold their unique body position for a total of five seconds and then go back to their normal positions.
The guessers take turns guessing two people they think are a match or had the same body position.
If they don’t match the people, it’s the next guessers’ turn.
Keep score of correct guesses and the winner has the most correct answers at the end of the game.
Tips: Plan to play this game more than once and make sure every attendee meets with new people every round. After breakout rooms start, look at the breakout rooms and move anyone in an unbalanced room. You can tell your attendees to click “Ask for Help” if they don’t get paired with a live person or someone who can turn on their video.
Jimbo Clark from InnoGreat (innogreat.com) was the first to create this game.
