Goals: Have a fun dance party.

Dancing is a way to bring energy to your next meeting. Dancing helps your attendees’ heart, increases energy, makes you feel happy, and helps eliminate stress and depression.

Time: 2–60 minutes

Participants: 2–Max

Technology: Audio, video, share computer audio

Category: Fun Instructions: To share playing music from your computer:

Step 1: Click “Share Screen.”

Step 2: Click the “Advanced” tab.

Step 3: Click “Music or Computer Sound Only.”

Step 4: Play your song on your computer.

Tips: Test setting your audio level on your video. If you set it at one quarter to one half the maximum value, it’s about the same volume as your voice and it may allow you to talk with the music and still be understood. Because this option does not share your screen, you can use your screen to see your attendees in gallery mode dancing at the same time. See Matching and Mirroring for ideas to get people to dance at the same time or play songs with known dances like “YMCA.” You can also ask for song requests by audio or by chat.

Some virtual meetings have a professional DJ come in to mix their dance party and be interactive. Remember, some of your attendees may not like to dance, so give positive alternatives like clapping along with the music.

If you are live streaming at the same time, consider that many live streaming platforms have rules and regulations around copyrighted music. Playing copyrighted music may mean that your live streaming platform may mute all the audio during this portion and they also may end your live stream. Check the rules on your live streaming platform.

The US Power Team is a group of people who meet to support each other. They wanted an energetic way to start their meeting. When this group met together in the past, they would dance to start their live face-to-face meetings.

They chose the song “Let’s Go” by Calvin Harris. They taught a simple dance that could be done sitting down. They taught hand claps when the snare drum is hit. When the song transitions to the next section, they taught “hand wipes,” which alternates wiping the left hand and the right hand across the camera.

When they played the music, the energy exploded as everyone danced to their familiar music. Click the video to see a dance party in action.
